Sites for Ethnobotanicals & Etsy Shops

I’m purposefully leaving out a few well-known shops due to popularity. I will also continue to update this post.

Ethnobotanicals

Bouncing Bear Botanicals - Great website! Very fast shipping, although shipping is a tad expensive. I’ve ordered three different herbs from there (European mandrake root, scullcap, and sweet flag) and received my package within a few days.  Decent pricing for the amount you receive.

Spirit Apothecary - A tad more expensive than Bouncing Bear Botanicals, but a great backup for when one is out of stock (BBB is out of belladonna at the moment).  Just ordered some belladonna from here to make an ointment.

Otherworld Apothecary - In my opinion, the backup of the backup if you need out of stock herbs. Sort of expensive, but they do have a killer “Balm of Night Flight” that’s made with datura, henbane, and mandrake root and they also have many well-crafted magical oils.

Etsy Shops

Wendy Rose Brews - Many positive reviews and a great selection of items.  I ordered her “trance” herbal tincture.  Takes about 1.5 weeks to receive your item because she lives in the Netherlands.  I had it delivered to my school address and I’m on spring break right now, so when I get back I’ll keep you guys updated on the item!

Belladonna and Bones - I actually haven’t ordered from this shop, but I figured I’d bring it up because they sell a belladonna flying ointment.  The owner is very kind and will help you out with any questions you have!

Agreed! Ouija boards and pendulums seem do have a lot of human error. Same goes with automatic writing, especially if you don’t know how to do it. In a study by Peres et al. (2012), however, experienced psychographers (i.e., automatic writers; participants were also in a trance while participating in psychography) showed less activity in the left culmen, left hippocampus, left inferior occipital gyrus, left anterior cingulate, right superior temporal gyrus, and right precentral gyrus when examined using the SPECT imaging technique. When examining their non-trance writing, these areas had significantly more activity. This may suggest that trance reduces one’s ability to complete planned actions. If this reduces one’s ability to complete planned actions, does this mean that experienced psychographers in a trance-like state have a rather low chance of basic human error? Also, how do these researchers define trance in the first place? Do they simply define it as a hypnotic-like state, which is different from trance, or do they define it as when one reaches theta brain wave levels? I bring this up because autosuggestion in a hypnotic state (as opposed to a true trance state) can affect the outcome of psychography.

Amazing Website

This AMAZING website/blog is so correct! Everyone who isn’t a Wiccan witch or isn’t into Wicca stop what you’re doing and READ THIS!

Thank you for mentioning this!  I found this website a long time ago, but I never bookmarked the link and couldn’t find it!

What do your spirits and/or ancestors like as an offering?

Random post, I know, but the spirits I work with (including my ancestors) really like this one coffee cake my mom makes.  I must say, it is delicious.

The Stinging Nettle, which must in wisdom be avoided for its malevolent properties, yet shall yield a nutritious tea if the leaves are plucked young (by hands safeguarded in gloves the while).  Also it may work a fitting revenge upon one who has betrayed you, if a box full of stems, these wrapped in gaudy paper, be sent to the offender secretly at the waxing of the moon.

From Valerie Worth’s Crone’s Book of Charms and Spells.

I’m on spring break, so I’m officially starting a blog post for you guys about the psychology and neuroscience behind trance states. :D I have found a few articles so far and I’m waiting on one from ILLiad. I’m not finding as many neuroimaging studies as I’d like to find, unfortunately, but hopefully the post still comes out well!
